hahaha i saw that movie and it was like.. yeah good job making them look like chipmunks and whatnot but the clothes were sad...

What's interesting is that when they debuted they looked like realistic chipmunks, which was before they were made into TV characters. [link]
I think the more simplistic designs was because of the low budget television animation had at the time.
